Choosing a Sink with Double Basins

Choosing the fixtures to complete a kitchen renovation can take a considerable amount of time. You need to choose hardware for cabinets, counter tops and sinks. A sink with double basins is a great option for when you are looking for something that allows for maximum sanitation. A sink with double basins lets you wash and stack dirty dishes in one basin and rinse in a separate basin. This allows you to keep your kitchen as clean as possible. The more cleanly your kitchen, the less you need to worry about food borne toxins and illnesses. Cross contamination is a major concern in many residential kitchens. Few people truly understand the necessity of maintaining sanitary conditions in a kitchen, but there are several concerns that go into sanitation.

Food allergies are a common problem in many households. A sink with a double basin can help you avoid cross contamination when preparing foods that some household members have allergies to. When you are preparing a meal for family members with allergies, you will want to make sure to wash every prep surface in between each usage. Prep surfaces are often part of the counter top. A nice counter top can be used as a cutting board as well. Some are also heat resistant, allowing you to continue to prep directly on the surface that you use to cut the food. However, no one enjoys stopping everything to thoroughly clean a cutting board. With under mount sink with double basin options you do not have to. Instead, you simply run your rag across the surface directly over the sink after every item, to remove the possibility of cross contamination.

If that does not give you enough peace of mind, you can also try using the counter tops for one set or preparation and the cutting boards for the other. When dealing with someone who has a severe reaction that is anaphylactic, you may want to be extra careful. You would then use a sink with double basins to keep all contaminated items totally separate from non-contaminated. This allows you to ensure that there is not contamination and reduces the risk of an allergic reaction. Of course, minimizing allergen exposure is only one reason to enjoy a sink with double basins.

Another reason you might prefer a kitchen sinks with double basins is for ease of clean up. When you are putting together a meal you generate a lot of dishes. This can quickly fill up a single basin sink, leaving you with no easy access to water to fill the next pot, or a place to drain off noodles. A sink with double basins actually expands your cooking space. A sink is a great place to put pots to cool off out of they way or drain off excess water. A double basin also allows you wash pots and pans that you need repeatedly as you go. If you are careful in how you approach cooking, you can actually leave your kitchen clean when you are done. If you load the dish washer with items that you will not need again, and rewash items as you use them, you can be looking at only minimal mess when you are finished with your meal.
