Different Types of Wood Vanity Sets for Difference Size Rooms

If you've got your heart set on a wood vanity set for your next bathroom redesign, then you'll have a choice to make. Which type of wood do you go for? And what will go best with your existing home decor?

There are a number of things to think about when deciding on what type of wood to use for your vanity units or cabinets. First of all, think about the size of your bathroom. If you have a large open bathroom, then you can seriously consider a dark color, maybe a cherry wood, or walnut. Aspen also goes very well, and can contrast really nicely with lighter colored walls and floors. Because a large bathroom already has a nice open space, you don't have to worry about the color of your wood vanity units making your room look smaller. The natural size of your room will negate this, especially if you have lots of natural light coming into the bathroom from outside as well.

On the other hand, if your bathroom is of the smaller variety, perhaps if it's an en-suite bathroom, then you don't want to have dark colors if you can help it, at least not too much. You could consider a pine set for your wood vanity, or maybe beech. Teak can go very well too, especially with sinks and basins that are white.

If you're undecided on the color of your wood vanity set, or if your bathroom is neither very large nor very small, then you can try something that is fairly neutral. Again, teak is a good choice as this color wood goes with almost anything and can look stunning if you have natural sunlight coming into the room. Beech is another wood that can work equally as well in a large bathroom, or something smaller. It is neither too dark to look overpowering, nor it is too light that it's uninteresting. If you choose a natural wood, then various features in the wood itself will enhance the look and make it feel all the more special.

You can also choose to have a combination of light vanity tops with darker units and doors for your wood vanity set. It's not always advisable to mix different types of wood, but perhaps you could try a lightwood for the units and doors, and a dark material for the tops. Granite counter tops are a good choice, or even dark grey or black tops. Equally you can do the reverse and choose a lightwood for the tops, for example pine or beech, and then choose darker colors for the unit doors and drawers.

Whatever you decide, the choice has to be yours, and has to fit in with the rest of the room, and even the rest of the house. Many people have a running theme through the house, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to it rigidly. Experiment a little with the colors in your bathroom, and you can make the most important room of the house a really great place to be.
