Granite Countertops Prices - Are they Really Expensive?

Granite Counter Tops

Granite Countertops

Granite is one of the most popular and beloved of all countertops. It has natural appeal in the kitchen, bathroom or on the bar. It is extremely tough, very beautiful and all natural. Granite can stand up to heat, it resists stains and is highly scratch resistant. It is very easy to clean, it can last a lifetime and maintenance is a breeze with granite. With all of these advantages, you may be wondering about granite countertops prices.

The truth is, granite can be on the pricey side depending on the type you choose. There are certainly granite choices that can be cheaper than others and some granite choices can be way over many of our budgets. The type of granite you choose will usually have a direct impact on the granite countertops prices.

When it comes to granite counter tops prices, the least expensive options, in general, are tile countertops. Granite tiles can come in many sizes, from small tiles that are a few inches or centimeters to larger pieces that have the advantage of fewer lines. These tiles can be grouted to the countertop or they can be attached to the countertop with a strong epoxy. This option allows you to have real granite, but you will have lines or seams that are visible. It is possible there can be small cracks in the seams where water or bacteria can leak into, causing mildew or health risks. The good thing about granite tile is it is cheap. You may be able to get it for as little as $5 a square foot, especially if you install yourself.

Modular granite is the granite countertops prices that are middle of the road. This granite is again, in pieces, but the pieces are much larger than tile and are cut to your exact specifications. You will simply send your measurements to the manufacturer and they will send you all the cut pieces in the colors you have chosen. Again, like the tile granite, you will need to install yourself for the cheapest prices. If is possible, however, to find someone who has some knowledge to do it for you. Modular granite usually starts at about $25 a square foot.

When you think of granite countertops, you are probably thinking of slab granite. Granite countertops prices for slab granite are high and the price is what you probably expect from granite. You will not be able to install these slabs yourself, so the price will always include installation. You will also probably be charged transportation to get the slab from the supplier to your home. Usually you can expect granite countertops prices to be, at minimum, about $60 a square foot installed. Realistically, it will probably be more depending on where you buy them and what type of granite you use.

When it comes to granite, as you can see from the information above, it does not need to be expensive. Getting some local quotes can be the best way to decide what type of granite is in your budget.
