Porcelain Countertops

Porcelain Countertops

Porcelain countertops are a great choice and often overlooked material. Porcelain tops are also called vitreous china or china countertops. Regardless of the name, they are an extremely affordable material with great properties. The material is always glazed with a top coat that makes it non-porous. This means that the countertops are stain resistant and bacterial resistant which are both important considerations for a bathroom material.

Porcelain countertops are available in two depth sizes to accommodate standard and narrow-depth cabinets. The countertops come in depths of 19 and 22 inches to accommodate cabinetry that is 18 or 21 inches in depth. Additionally, the material is an excellent consideration because it comes in numerous widths. As a single bowl version, these countertops can typically be found in 25, 31, 37, and 49 inch wide sizes. As a double bowl version, these countertops can sometimes be found in a 61 inch wide size.

Additionally, porcelain countertops can work with bathrooms that are uniquely different in style. The material is adaptable enough to work in a traditional, transitional, or even contemporary bathroom. To use the material in a traditional or transitional bathroom, it is recommended that the home owner look for round shaped bowl versions. Conversely to use the material in a contemporary bathroom, prospective customers can look for square shaped bowl versions. Additional considerations for different styles can include faucet hole drilling formats. Typically, a traditional or transitional bathroom will use a 3-hole 8-inch widespread format. However most contemporary bathrooms will use a single hole faucet drilling format. If you take these options in to consideration, you can find perfect porcelain countertops that will match your design style.

An additionally interesting consideration is that porcelain countertops are available in 2 to 4 inch thick versions. This can help if you have a bathroom cabinet that is unusually low or if you happen to be tall and simply want a higher countertop height. By using these thicker porcelain countertops, you can increase the distance from the top of the countertop to the floor. For taller home owners, this can be particularly attractive as it makes their sink easier to use.

Who would have thought that porcelain countertops would offer so many interesting advantages? It is clearly an overlooked material which should be given more serious consideration for almost any bathroom remodeling project. It is an excellent material at an attractive price point with more options than most prospective buyers realize.
