Bathroom Countertop Budget Considerations

Bathroom Countertop

One of the most cost-effective methods to remodeling a bathroom is to simply replace an existing bathroom countertop. A new color, a new material, or even a new stylish bowl will add considerable value to any bathroom. The general trend in recent years is for people to stay in their homes and remodel them as their budgets allow. If you can't completely remodel your bathroom, it is strongly recommended to consider changing the bathroom vanity or simply changing the bathroom countertop.

There are numerous bathroom countertop materials in the market place. Some of the most common materials include cultured marble counter tops, granite counter tops, solid surface counter tops, and quartz counter tops. If your intention is to stay within an entry to mid-priced budget, these are the core materials you should limit yourself to. If you absolutely need to least expensive materials, cultured marble and laminate countertops are the materials to consider. If you have no budget an want to consider exotic and more expensive materials, you can also look to concrete, wood butcher block, and even stainless steel countertops. In the middle of the value proposition are granite, solid surface, and quartz countertops.

When purchasing cultured marble countertops, you should consider the thickness first. Cultured marble tends to be available in two thickness options. The rule is that the thicker the countertop, the more expensive the finished product will be with cultured marble, your color options will be generally available in palettes of white, gray, beige, and black themes.

For slightly more than cultured marble, home owners can consider solid surface and even granite as materials for consideration for their bathroom countertop. These two materials will open the options to hundreds of possible color options. Solid surface is a man made material with unique characteristics while granite is a raw material found in the earth's core. Solid surface is a non porous material which is perfect for the bathroom. Non porous countertop materials are stain resistant and bacteria resistant. Granite is also an excellent selection as it lends a classic elegance to any bathroom remodeling project.

Finally, at the higher end of the budget spectrum is the material called quartz. Quartz is a man made material which is often times confused for granite. As a bathroom countertop material, quartz looks and feels like granite but has the advantage of being non-porous. As a result, you will never need to reseal the countertop and it is naturally stain and chemical resistant. Even the most volatile chemicals will not impact the beauty of a quartz countertop. This means that nail polish, acetone, and even hair dyes common used in bathrooms will not be a concern.

Regardless of your final selection for your bathroom countertop, your two primary considerations will be color and price. Between cultured marble, granite, solid surface, and quartz materials, you will be certain to find the perfect option for your bathroom remodeling option. You will be amazed at how something as simple as just changing a countertop can create such a dramatic impact on a bathroom. This impact will only add to the value of your home and give you a sense of pride.
