How to Clean Cultured Marble Countertops

Cultured marble Countertop

Cultured marble countertops are always extremely beautiful when they are first installed. They will continue to look lovely if they are properly cleaned and cared for over time. That is why it is important to learn how to clean your cultured marble countertops properly, so that their beauty will last for a long time.

Step One: Select an Appropriate Cleanser

Cultured marble countertops will not fair well with an ordinary cleanser. The best idea is to purchase a cleaner that is designed to clean marble and other stone such as granite. If you do not have one available currently, a water-based or pH-neutral cleanser in a spray bottle should work fine.

Step Two: Find a Couple of Good Cloths

Paper towels will work well as they will not leave or create any fine scratches on the surface. Rough bristles can create fine scratches and you do not want that. Scrubbing brushes or abrasive cleaning pads will certainly cause unwanted scratches and dulling. Do not use anything harsh, and try to avoid anything with colors that may bleed.

The best thing to use is a soft cloth. Microfiber cloths are recommended for many delicate surfaces, including cultured marble counter tops, and they are an excellent material to use to clean them. You can also use other soft materials such as terry cloth or flannel because they will not cause scratching or dulling.
If you will be polishing your counters as well, you might want to invest in a nice polishing cloth that is specially made for applying polishes or wax.

Step Three: Maintain your
Cultured Marble Countertops

Dust the surfaces of particles, hairs and crumbs on a daily basis with your soft cloths. Keeping them clean will keep them lovely. Once a week, take a small amount of your selected cleanser and a dampened soft cloth and thoroughly wipe down the counters. You must be sure to rinse any soapy residue from the surface following this step as soap can make the surface appear dull. With a dry soft cloth, remove any remaining moisture from the counter surface.

Take extra care to remove spills and stains immediately. Waiting too long can cause permanent damage, staining or discoloration to your cultured marble
countertops. Even if clean water is spilled on the counter surface, you should dry it quickly and thoroughly because hard water stains can develop, making the counter look dull. Another thing to keep in mind is that acidic foods like tomatoes (and tomato sauce) or beverages (such as orange juice) can cause damage as well. Keep these things from directly contacting the surface.

Step Four: Polishing the Counters

There are many marble polishes available on the market today. Select one that is of good quality and follow the instructions on the label very carefully. Do not apply too much or too little polish, and make sure that you use a quality polishing cloth. You should be aware that deep visible scratches must be repaired prior to a finishing polish. You can use a scratch repair kit to take care of this problem before you polish the counters.
