Should You Choose a Single or Dual Sink Vanity?

Your vanity space will always be a focus in your bathroom and having a dual sink vanity can help make the area more of a focal point than a single sink vanity will. Many modern bathrooms have a double vanity but that doesn't mean that one of them will work for your particular bathroom set up. You may find that a large vanity it just not right for your bathroom because of size or you may find that the plumbing will be too much over your budget to change. Learning a bit more about single and dual sink vanity choices can help you make an informed decision.

The first thing you should do before deciding on a single or double vanity is to measure the area where you are thinking about putting the vanity. A single vanity starts at around 18 inches and a dual sink vanity starts at about 47 inches. You can get a bit smaller than that if needed, but you will have to get the vanity custom made. If you have your heart set on having two sinks, you can also take two single vanities that are small and place them side by side or two pedestal sinks side by side. You can browse our selection of sinks from bathroom vessels to bathroom lavatory.

Thinking about the space you have, even if a dual sink vanity will fit in the room, it still may not be practical. For instance, many people don't consider the fact that once the vanity is in, how much room they will have to walk around, stand and open the doors and drawers of the vanity. There have been many cases people putting in vanities and not being able to open the doors because they forgot to measure the space needed in front of the vanity as well.

If you have a family or a partner who must utilize the sink at the same time as you do, a dual sink vanity will probably be the best option if you have the room. Having a double sink vanity will give everyone a place to store their cosmetics, toothbrushes and individual toiletries. To make it more aesthetic, choose a vanity with a lot of drawers so everyone in the family can have their own drawer. Even if you do not have a family now, if you are planning on staying in the same home for many years and want to have a family, you will probably want to plan ahead with a double vanity.

When you plan accordingly, your bathroom can be an extremely functional space. Even if you choose to get a single sink over a dual sink vanity, it doesn't mean that you can't have some of the benefits. You can always add storage, for instance, in the form of cabinets or linen closet built into your bathroom. Though your budget may be important now, in a few years, you may not have to worry about it, so you can also install a single sink vanity now and add on to the same piece in a few years as your family grows. Though a double vanity will add a lot of value to your home, you may need to do it in stages so you can afford to put it in.
