Top Benefits of a Swanstone Vanity
Despite the name, Swanstone is not actually a type of rock. It is an acrylic material manufactured by the Swan Corporation, and used in all sorts of household items. You can find Swanstone countertops, Swanstone baths, and Swanstone vanities. We’re going to look at the benefits and drawbacks of a Swanstone vanity, but first, what exactly is Swanstone?
Swanstone
According to the Swan Corporation, “Swanstone is a homogeneous, non-porous material with color molded throughout. This material is reinforced, modified acrylic filled with natural minerals. It is heat resistant up to 450 degrees.”In normal English, homogenous and non-porous mean that it is easy to clean. Porous materials, like wood, have small holes and spaces where bacteria can hide. Non-porous materials like granite and plastic do not have such spaces. It's a synthetic acrylic, which means that it is made in their labs, from a combination of plastics and minerals. Heat resistant, of course, means that you can put a pot of boiling water or a hot curling iron on it, and it will not be harmed.
Benefits
There are numerous benefits to a Swanstone vanity top. As mentioned above, its very easy to clean. It is also resistant to all household cleaners. Further, as it’s a homogenous material, and one with colors molded throughout, a serious stain can be polished or buffed away, because the surface will be the same underneath as it was before the stain.
Additionally, the manufacturer claims that it is resistant to common bathroom chemicals such as acetone (nail polish remover) and drain cleaner, and will be harmed by neither acids nor bases.Furthermore, a Swanstone vanity is extremely resistant to chipping, unlike other solid-surface vanity tops like Marble, which can chip in the course of everyday use. And if it does happen to get chipped, a Swanstone vanity is homogenous, so you can buff or polish the chip, and have it looking pretty close to new.
Another major benefit is that, as Swanstone is a molded acrylic, holes can be drilled in it without risk of damaging the whole piece. Thus it can easily accommodate all types of faucets and fixtures.
Drawbacks
However, as with anything, there are also some drawbacks to a Swanstone vanity. The major drawback is that it’s just synthetic. In terms of appearance, it’s hard to beat the look and feel of a solid granite or marble counter tops. Even with all the functionality and at a lower price-point, some people, purists especially, will just prefer natural material. Likewise with wood. If your house has a lot of antiques or old wooden furniture, a Swanstone vanity may look totally out of place in your bathroom, whereas a wooden vanity, despite being harder to clean, may just make the place look perfect.
Though there are a few drawbacks to a Swanstone vanity, but the benefits are sure to outweigh them in most cases. It is a strong material, resistant to chemicals and breakage, and easily cleaned or repaired should something happen.
