Perfect Vanities for all Bathroom Sinks

In terms of vanities and bathroom sinks, there are five major options to consider. The most common types are top-mount and under-mount sinks, which sit slightly above and slightly below, respectively, the level of the vanity. Alternatively there are single piece vanity/sink combos, in which the vanity top and sink are all made of one piece. There are also vessels sinks, which sit entirely on top of the vanity, and have been one of the more fashionable trends in bathroom design as of late. Lastly, there are pedestal sinks, which do not use any vanity at all.

It's essential to consider all the different options of vanities for bathroom sinks, and so we'll look at each of these options in turn.

Top-mount sinks are the classics of the bathroom design world. The majority of the sinks in any home are probably top-mount sinks or bathroom lavatory. Under-mount sinks are a pretty basic twist on the classic, simply reversing the process. Whereas top-mounts are lowered into the sink and have a rim which extends over the top, under-mounts are raised into the sink, and do not have a lip which extends over. There aren't any major differences in performance, but there are differences in appearance. If you're envisioning a sleek and modern-looking bathroom, and under-mount may be a better choice, as being a reversal of the classic design, it tends to look more avant-garde.

Single piece vanity-sink combos are a relatively new addition to the world of bathroom design, and they mix up the traditional relationship between vanities and bathroom sinks. As the name implies, it is just one piece of molded acrylic which includes a sink (or two). These have the huge benefit of being exceedingly easy to clean and maintain, but with the additional downside of not looking as sophisticated as some of the other options. Additionally, due to their nature, single piece vanity-sink combos can only be readily made from synthetic materials, and so they may not appeal to you if you're going for a more natural look in your bathroom.

Bathroom Vessels sinks are one of the most popular trends in the world of vanities and bathroom sinks right now. Vessel sinks sit entirely on top of the vanity, with the faucets and fixtures mounted separately in the vanity. They can be very attractive sinks, made of unorthodox materials like glass or stone.

Pedestal sinks do not use a vanity at all. While it may seem strange that there are no vanities for these bathroom sinks, they are often used for design purposes. Pedestal sinks can be used to create something of an old-timey feel, or a sparse, bohemian feel. Additionally, they are often used in small apartment bathrooms where space is at a premium and the room would feel overwhelmed and crowded with the addition of a full vanity.

The relationship between vanity and sink is an essential one, as together these two items will form the centerpiece of any bathroom. Certain types of sinks work best with certain types of vanities, and vice versa. Understanding this relationship is the key to making a bathroom remodel work.
